Matchday 3 of the Mead Plant & Grab Div 2B season saw Ramsey Pavilion make the short journey to earlier promotion favourites AFC Barley Mow. The game started brightly for The Pavos with an early chance falling to Dan Short but the first half was generally a fairly scrappy affair with both sides struggling to get the ball down to play. It wasn’t until the 40th minute that the deadlock was broken, and in bizarre circumstances as Pavo defender Hadleigh Liddle went in for a tackle and the ball ricocheted 40 yards off him, over the helpless ‘keeper John Turner and in for an own goal.
Disappointed at being a goal down at half time, Manager Matt Brading rallied his men and they were soon level thanks to a superbly stuck half-volley by Tom Allgood from the edge of the opponent’s 18 yard box. The Pavos continued on the offensive but looked susceptible to their opponent’s pacey counter attacks and it wasn’t long before AFC Barley Mow re-took the lead, quickly turning defence into attack before the Striker calmly slotted the ball under Turner for their second.
The Pavos had chances to equalise, Kyle McPartlin hitting the bar and the AFC Barley Mow ‘keeper saving brilliantly from point-blank range but, in the dying moments of the game, another breakaway chance gave Barley their 3rd as a cross from out wide managed to evade everyone before going straight in. 3-1 the final score. After the match Manager Brading called on his players to bounce back from this defeat saying 'Whilst only being together a short time it is vital we learn from our mistakes and improve our performances moving forward'.
The next match for Ramsey Pavilion is a trip to Papworth for Round 2 of the Creake Charity Shield. 3pm kick off on Saturday 15th October.
